Nissan’s largest SUV, the Armada, gets a design refresh for the 2021 model year, including a significant technology update. It also boasts a power bump that may make it a more competitive option for large SUV shoppers.
The 2020 Nissan Armada currently sits at number five in our ranking of the best large SUVs – a segment of the market where there are only six competitors. The Ford Expedition has won our Full-Size SUV Best Buy Award three years running.
The Armada looks new from the front and the back – sharper headlights and a larger grille highlight the changes to the face, while a redesigned bumper and a chrome strip connecting the taillights update the look from behind.
Interior changes are more significant. A new, 12.3-inch touchscreen takes the place of most of the buttons that cluttered the outgoing model. The screen, together with a 7-inch information display in place of the old gauge cluster brings the Armada more in line with its rivals. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and WiFi hotspot capability make it one of the more high-tech options in its class.
Forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring are now standard equipment for 2021. Under the hood, the 5.6-liter V8 makes 400 horsepower. This increase boosts towing capacity to 8,500 pounds, close to the Expedition’s class-leading 9,300 pounds.
The updated 2021 Nissan Armada should reach dealerships in January, but pricing has not yet been revealed.
