GMC has taken the wraps off a mid-cycle refresh of its 2020 GMC Acadia crossover SUV. This midsize 3-row model has a redesigned front grille, a new engine added to the mix and the lineup expanded to include an off-road oriented AT4 trim level.
The new models are distinguished by a larger, bolder grille flanked by standard LED headlamps. Other upgrades include new 18- and 20-inch wheel designs, LED turn signals integrated into the outside review mirrors, a redesigned center console with greater storage, new Denali open-power wood trim and hands-free power liftgates on STL, AT4 and Denali. GMC said it has also recalibrated the Acadia’s suspension for enhanced ride and handling.
New powertrain
A new 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is now standard in SLT and Denali models. In the 2020 GMC Acadia, the new engine will produce 230 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. On SL and SLE models, the current 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 193 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque carries over. GMC will again offer a 3.6-liter V6, which is rated at 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. A new 9-speed automatic transmission replaces the current 6-speed automatic in all models and all engines use fuel-saving stop/start technology along with a switch that allows the driver to deactivate the system.
Other upgrades include an optional head-up display that will be offered later in the 2020 model year and improvements to the infotainment system that features a standard 8-inch center touchscreen. Users will be able to tailor vehicle settings including entertainment and climate controls to match a personal profile. The navigation system has a new interface that makes it easier to set a destination as well as a connected feature that offers real time updates to the mapping. There’s also a Predictive Navigation capability, two new USB-C charging points, next-generation 15-watt wireless charging available and a new rear camera mirror option on Denali models.

New AT4 model
The division is expanding its off-road-oriented offerings by adding a 2020 GMC Acadia AT4 model. These models are distinguished by black chrome grille accents and unique 17-inch wheels shod with all-terrain rubber. AT4 models are powered by the 3.6-liter V6 and come with standard twin-clutch all-wheel drive.
The 2020 GMC Acadia will go into production at GM’s Spring Hill, Tenn., assembly plant later this year and will go on sale this fall. Pricing will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch. The current 2019 GMC Acadia starts at $30,195 for a front-drive SE model with a 4-cylinder engine. The SLE starts at $36,395, while the SLT goes for $39,195. The top Denali trim starts at $43,095. All prices exclude $1,195 delivery.
