UPDATE: We’ve driven the 2019 Nissan Murano!

  • 5-passenger midsize crossover updated
  • Nissan Safety Shield 360 added
  • Rear Door Alert becomes standard
  • On sale in December
  • Current Murano pricing starts at $31,000

Nissan’s 2019 Murano is a freshened version of its premium 5-passenger midsize crossover that boasts updates to its interior and exterior styling. As part of its midcycle remake, the 2019 Murano also gains enhanced safety features.

“The first-generation Nissan Murano had a profound impact on the SUV market when it was introduced in 2003. As a pioneer of the CUV trend, it offered forward-looking design sensibility that combined an elegant style with premium features – without a luxury price tag,” said Dan Mohnke, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing and Operations, Nissan Division U.S., Nissan North America, Inc.

Nissan Safety Shield 360

As with the updated 2019 Nissan Maxima flagship sedan, the Murano gains Nissan’s Safety Shield 360. The system bundles automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high-beam assist and rear automatic braking, which can keep you from backing the car into another vehicle or object.

For the 2019 Nissan Murano, the Safety Shield 360 system is standard on the topline Platinum trim or as part of the SL’s Technology Package. Newly standard on all trims – which also include S and SV – are second-row side airbags and front passenger knee airbag. Also newly standard across the Murano’s four trims is Nissan’s Rear Door Alert, which reminds driver’s to check the back seat for a child.

Design enhancements

On the aesthetic side, the 2019 Murano gets a freshened front featuring a bolder V-motion grille and redesigned LED headlights and taillights. New fog lights, redesigned 18- or 20-inch wheels and a trio of new colors — Sunset Drift Chromaflair, Mocha Almond Pearl and Deep Blue Pearl – round out the exterior updates.

Inside, the 2019 Murano Platinum model gains semi-aniline leather seats with diamond-quilted inserts, plus snazzy micro-piping trim on the seats, door armrests and center console lid. New trim finishes of dark or light wood or metallic also keep things fresh.

As with the current model, all Muranos are powered by a 260-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional.

The new 2019 Nissan Murano is slated to go on sale in December. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date, but for an idea, the current Murano starts at $31,000 before destination charge.
