The 2019 Ford Ranger has earned top fuel economy ratings among midsize pickup trucks, according to the EPA estimates. According to the agency, rear-drive versions of the 2019 Ranger equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged 4-cylinder engine are rated at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined.

A rear-drive 4-cylinder 2019 Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon gets 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The most fuel efficient midsize pickups are the 2-wheel drive Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon diesel at 20 mpg city/30 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined. Toyota’s Tacoma, when equipped with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine is rated at 20 mpg city/23 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined.

The EPA also rated 4×4 versions of the new Ranger at 20 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. Those versions are also the leaders in fuel economy. The 2019 Ford Ranger has only one engine and that 4-cylinder produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Ford boasts that the latter is the highest torque number of any gasoline engine in the segment and adds that the engine comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission as standard equipment.

Ford also boasts that the new Ranger, when equipped with a towing package, has best-in-class towing capacity at 7,500 pounds and best-in-class 1,860 pounds of payload. Pricing for the 2019 Ford Ranger starts at $24,300 for an XL SuperCab 4×2 with a 6-foot bed and $26,520 for the SuperCrew 4×4 with a 5-foot bed. The 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat XLT SuperCrew 4×4 starts at $38,385. Prices exclude $1,095 delivery.
