Nissan has begun what will be an ongoing campaign to provide images and information about the upcoming next-gen Leaf EV that will be released throughout the summer prior to the car’s full reveal later this year. The first photo of the all-new 2018 Leaf shows its more stylish and efficient LED headlamps. Spy shots of heavily camouflaged cars indicate these news lamps will be affixed to a fairly well-styled hatchback body that reflects a mix of current Nissan production cues as well as a few touches borrowed from the IDS Concept car that was presented at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

While no additional factoids about the upcoming Leaf were offered, the automaker has previously made no secret of its intent to ensure the next-generation of its all-electric car would have significantly greater range than the current model. Given the new Chevrolet Bolt EV arrived on the scene recently boasting a 238-mile per-charge range, it’s safe to assume that Nissan will ensure at least one version of the new Leaf will be able to run somewhere beyond 200 miles on a single charge, and possibly even push the 250 mile benchmark. It’s also expected to be fitted with a 60-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, ala the IDS Concept. We’ll know soon enough.
