Volvo released a teaser of its new 2017 Volvo S90 Sedan, which will be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this January. Like the XC90 SUV, the automaker’s new flagship sedan will be built off of the modular Scalable Product Architecture platform. Set to take on rivals like the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class, this larger and more upscale replacement for the current S80 also will feature many of the signature styling cues seen in the XC90 — which also drew its inspiration from the Volvo Concept Coupe and Concept Estate show cars.

Inside, the richly appointed cabin of the new 2017 Volvo S90 should be nearly identical to the XC90, and match rich leather upholstery with an adaptive digital instrument cluster plus Volvo’s Sensus user interface that features a large, tablet-like touchscreen. Like the XC90, the new S90 also will use Volvo’s supercharged/turbocharged 2.0-liter/4-cylinder Drive-E engine in T6 form and is expected to offer the gas/electric hybrid Twin-Engine T8 plug-in variant at some point.
