While full details won’t be revealed until sometime next month, we now have our first glimpse of the 2017 Karma Revero. If it appears more than a bit familiar, that’s because this plug-in hybrid is heavily based upon the original Fisker Karma that was designed by Henrik Fisker but rolled off of the automotive scene in 2013 when the firm went bankrupt following a troubled five years of very limited production. Although still headquartered in southern California, the rejuvenated and renamed Karma Automotive operation is now being bankrolled by the giant Chinese automotive components supplier Wanxiang, an asset that should materially help its overall efforts to establish at least a micro niche in the emerging high-end luxury plug-in market.
Although there’s still no word on its drivetrain elements, output figures or range stats, Karma has stated the Revero’s solar roof panel “will create enough energy to power the car,” a bold but yet to be fully documented claim. It also notes the Revero’s infotainment system represents “a departure from the norm” and that the circular badge on the hood of each vehicle will be individually hand painted to serve as “a symbolic statement about craftsmanship and individuality.” The 2017 Karma Revero is believed to have a starting price around $100,000 and while the order books will open in September, initial Revero deliveries aren’t expected until closer to the end of the year.
