2016 Scion iA to bow in New York

After months of referring to it as a new sedan, Scion announced its first-ever formal 4-door model will be called the iA. Previewed in this teaser released ahead of the car’s debut at the New York Auto Show, the 2016 Scion iA is aimed at young buyers who want the engaging style and overall dynamic character of the iM hatch but with "a little more practicality."

Beyond saying that the new iA has an accommodating trunk and will be joining the Scion iM in dealer showrooms this fall, the automaker has revealed few details on the technical front. While there’s speculation this formal 4-door may share underpinnings and powertrain mechanicals with the current Toyota Yaris, it’s also possible the iA will be spun from the new Mexican-built Mazda Mazda2 under terms of a technical agreement signed between the two automakers back in 2012.
