The 2016 Nissan Sentra has been awarded a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for models fitted with the available Forward Emergency Braking technology that’s optional on the Sentra SR and SL models. To qualify for the organization’s ultimate TSP+ ranking in 2016, a vehicle must earn a "Good" or better mark in all five crashworthiness categories (moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraint) and also offer a front crash prevention system that qualifies for either an "Advanced" or "Superior" rating from the IIHS.

The Sentra is the fourth Nissan to earn the highest IIHS safety honors for 2016, joining the Altima, Maxima and Murano. "Nissan is proud to have another of our core vehicles recognized by IIHS for vehicle safety," said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Strategy and Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. "Nissan has the safety and security of Nissan vehicle owners and their passengers as its top priority, so we are glad to see our long-term investment in safety showing results in these latest IIHS tests."
