Giving its full-size SUV a final upgrade before an all-new iteration rolls into showrooms a couple years from now, Lexus unveiled a revamped 2016 LX 570 in conjunction with this week’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This refresh gives the rugged- but-refined 8-passenger SUV new mechanical, technical and convenience features.
New look
The sweeping exterior changes to the 2016 LX 570 broom all existing sheetmetal save for carryover door panels. The most dramatic revamp is evident up front where an edgier fascia features a bolder take on the signature spindle grille flanked by new standard LED headlamps and running lights. The rear has LED L-shaped taillamps and a sleeker D-pillar treatment. The LX570’s profile has a more prominently contoured hood and fenders set off with standard 20-inch or optional 21-inch alloy wheels.
Mechanically, the 2016 Lexus LX 570 retains the existing 5.7-liter V8, although the engine’s 383 horsepower and 403 lb-ft of torque are now sent to all four wheels via a new 8-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission in place of the current 6-speed. That swap helps trim 0-60 mph sprint times to 7.3 seconds and adds one mpg to the EPA city/highway ratings that rise to 13/18 mpg. Still based on a rugged body-on-frame design, the 2016 LX 570 bolsters its standard Adaptive Variable Suspension with a new Drive Mode Select feature that permits quick on-the-fly tweaks to the powertrain and chassis while integrating with the existing Active Traction Control (A-TRAC) system and Torsen limited-slip differential to ensure comfort and confidence regardless of terrain.

Upgraded cabin
Inside, the LX 570 boasts upgrades starting with revised leather and wood trims, a new multifunction wood-rimmed steering wheel, larger 4.2-inch multi-info and 12.3-inch center displays-the latter with a Remote Touch interface controller and full-screen Navigation map views. New options for 2016 include a Head-Up Display, Lexus Enform Remote and Enform Service Connect, heated/ventilated second-row seats, a wireless charging tray and a rear-seat entertainment with an upsized dual 11.6-inch displays.
Finally, the recasting process also supplements the LX 570’s existing array of driver assists with the new Lexus Safety System+ that adds a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Intelligent High Beam and Lane Departure Alert to the mix. Pricing for 2016 Lexus LX570 will be released this fall but it should hit the showrooms "well-equipped in the $90Ks."
