2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD add tech

The 2016 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups roll into the next model year with a number of upgrades. Beyond several new colors, the exterior changes include projector-style HID headlamps and LED ancillary lighting that’s now standard on all models. A new remote locking tailgate joins the option roster on the Sierra base/WT, SLE and SLT models and is standard on the range-topping Denali which also comes with new wireless phone charging. Upgraded audio with enhanced GMC IntelliLink systems featuring 7.0-inch and 8.0-inch touchscreens add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability — the latter coming later in the year on vehicles with the 8.0-inch displays.

Once again offered in regular cab, double cab and crew cab configurations and with the choice of a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 gasoline engine or 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbodisel, these Heavy Duty GMC haulers come with new Active Steering Assist that enhances handling on all but the standard cab and  Sierra WT models. A new Gooseneck/5th Wheel Trailering Prep Package for Duramax Sierra HD models will let them tote larger trailers. And speaking of towing, all 2016 GMC Sierras now comply with SAE J2807 specifications. The trailering loads range from 14,500 pounds on a 2500HD to 23,200 pounds on a 3500HD dually fitted with the Gooseneck/5th Wheel package. In addition to Convenience, Preferred and Driver Alert Packages, the All Terrain HD premium off-road package will be available on 4WD SLT crew cab models. Pricing for the 2016 GMC Sierra HD pickups will be announced closer to their on-sale date later this fall.
