Set for a full reveal at the Paris Auto Show next month prior to a U.S. launch in early 2015, the new 2016 Fiat 500X gets previewed in a new video that features the modestly-revealing images seen here. While Fiat has yet to officially share any details regarding its new compact crossover, we do know that it will ride on a version of the same Compact-U.S. Wide (C-USW) platform that underpins the recently launched 2015 Jeep Renegade as well as the Fiat 500L. Like the Jeep Renegade, the new 500X will be built at the same Fiat assembly plant in Melfi, Italy.

Powertrain choices for the new Fiat 500X are expected to match those of the 500L, which would see the automaker’s 160-horsepower 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo engine paired with either a 6-speed manual, 6-speed conventional automatic or a 6-speed dual clutch autoshifter. Unlike its slightly smaller Fiat-badged cousin, this spritely soft-roader will feature both front- and all-wheel drive configurations like the Renegade. If the 500L is any indicator, available equipment on U.S.-spec 500X models will include both Chrysler‘s highly regarded Uconnect telematics and upline Beats by Dr. Dre audio systems. We’ll know more in early October.
