We’ve had our long-term 2016 Acura MDX for a little less than four months now and it is turning out to be a comfortable people hauler, as well as a roomy and versatile vehicle for moving duties. With a third row that can hold two passengers or fold down along with the second row to allow 68.4 cu. ft. of space for hauling large items, the MDX’s flexibility has earned it some popularity among staffers.
Roomy comfort
Comfortable seating is important whether you are driving your daily commute or taking a road trip and the MDX offers a variety of features to meet these needs. The Acura MDX is equipped with a 10-way power adjustable seat for the driver and an 8-way power adjustable on the passenger side. Decent side bolsters, in both front and second row seats, gently envelop occupants and help keep them in place without feeling too snug. Worth noting is Acura‘s Easy Entry, a smart feature that automatically moves the driver seat back about an inch and a half allowing for easier access in and out of the vehicle. Our long termer came equipped with the Advance Package which includes three levels of seat ventilation in addition to the standard three levels of heating.
While front passenger comfort is covered in the MDX, rear passengers benefit from 36.6 inches of legroom and 57.8 inches of hip room in the second row. Our Acura MDX comfortably accommodated three adults on a recent family outing, one of which was very tall and lanky. Add to that a higher seating position than the front row and the ability to slide the second row seats forward or backward about six inches for more or less legroom, plus a reclining feature and passengers may think they’re in a theater. If access to the third row is needed for additional passengers it’s all done by the push of a button which enables the second row to slide forward. When the third row seats are folded down there is 38.4 cu. ft. of space for carrying stuff, as well as a nifty sub-floor storage compartment.
Silence is golden
It isn’t just the Acura MDX’s roominess that makes it popular, it’s also the quiet, comfortable ride. Acura’s Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system does a good job at keeping the noise, vibration and harshness down. It works as soon as the ignition is turned on by muting low-frequency sound thereby creating a serenely silent interior. In addition, the MDX’s wheels were specifically designed to reduce road noise. The front suspension system with its fluid-filled bushings also helps to cut down on vibrations and road noise as well. Sound absorbing acoustic glass in the windshield and front side doors also keep outside noise from seeping in.
While our Acura MDX is equipped with many comfort features the only thing it is lacking is a heated steering wheel. Aside from this the MDX is turning into a solid driving partner for weekend jaunts and the daily grind. Check back for updates.
