2015 Toyota Camry update confirmed for New York

Seeking to keep it atop the incredibly competitive midsize sedan segment, Toyota has confirmed plans to introduce a significantly updated 2015 Camry at the 2014 New York Auto Show. While the automaker has yet to issue a release outlining specific enhancements, a spokesman did say that the refresh will be extensive enough to "challenge conventional expectations of a mid-cycle model change." If that proves true, we can expect to see revisions to both exterior and interior treatments, although powertrain changes seem unlikely.

While Camry has remained the best-selling passenger car in the U.S. for the past 12 years, it’s come under increasingly intense pressure this year from newer and arguably more engaging rivals like the Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, and Nissan Altima — as well as from the Hyundai Sonata that also will make its debut in redesigned 2015 form at the show. A dedicated enthusiast in his own right, Toyota Motor Company President Akio Toyoda has previously stated his desire to see the firm’s future products complement their practical qualities with considerably more emotional flair. The revamped 2015 Camry should provide a good indication of just how serious the organization is about stepping up to that challenge.
