Hoping to lure more potential buyers into the realm of its expanding brand sphere, the Ram Commercial Truck division has announced that it will begin selling an all-new small van here in America next year. Set to square off against rivals like the Ford Transit Connect and Nissan NV200, this smaller sibling to Ram’s existing ProMaster line will be marketed under the Ram ProMaster City brand and be available in both commercial/cargo and passenger configurations.

Like the ProMaster trucks, the ProMaster City lineup will be based on an existing Fiat platform, in this case, the highly regarded and extremely successful Doblo (pictured above) and features a number of Ram-specific styling tweaks. Ram has not yet revealed any information on U.S. powertrains for the ProMaster City family, but in Europe, the Fiat Doblo is offered with a number of 4-cylinder choices including 1.4-liter gasoline and CNG engines and 1.3/1.6/2.0-liter turbodiesels.
In making the announcement, Reid Bigland, President and CEO – Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC, noted: "Our successful relationship with Fiat Professional, one of the world’s foremost commercial truck manufacturers, gives Ram a competitive advantage with access to proven products and technology that will resonate with our U.S. and Canadian customers."
No word on when the Ram ProMaster City will begin appearing on our shores but as soon as we learn more, we’ll pass it along.
