Today, Mazda began taking orders for the 2015 MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition. We’ve got bad news if you’re reading this while trying to find your checkbook though as all 100 copies were spoken for in just 10 minutes. The ordering program was scheduled to open at 10:25 a.m. PDT and run for an hour before closing at 11:25 a.m. PDT but there was still 50 minutes remaining on the clock and no more special edition Miatas.

"The enthusiasm surrounding the MX-5 since its debut in 1989 has been nothing short of phenomenal, and we sincerely appreciate every single person that has experienced the absolute joy of driving in an MX-5 – whether behind the wheel or as a passenger," said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations. "Since day one, this vehicle has been a true driver’s car and we hope to continue to build upon its dynamic legacy for generations to come."

In what felt like the blink of an eye, 250 people who pre-registered accessed a special 25th anniversary pre-order microsite. Mazda will wade through the first 100 registered customers to verify their information, transmission selection, and intent to go forward with purchasing one of these 25th anniversary Miatas. After this is completed, the customer’s info will be forwarded to a dealer of their choosing to finish the deal.

Besides actually acquiring the car itself, all 100 owners of the MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition will get a Tourneau watch that comes with a display winder box. This stainless steel watch features black leather straps and red contrast stitching. Each watch will also sport MX-5 and 25th Anniversary logos.

Those who were quick enough to snatch up a 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition with a six-speed manual transmission had to fork over $33,000, including a $795 destination fee. Opting to go with an automatic transmission bumps the price up to $33,450, including destination. All special edition models are equipped with a power-retractable roof. If you were lucky enough to place an order, you can expect to head to the dealership to pick up your new Miata later this summer when the rest of the two-seater lineup enters showrooms all across North America.
