Beyond its spirited character and funky style, one of the most endearing qualities of the 2015 Honda Fit lies in its remarkably practical nature, a quality we’ll focus on in this update. As with its predecessor, the latest Fit matches impressive interior space with outstanding flexibility on a level that belies its relatively diminutive scale. Coupled with its other desirable characteristics, that kind of real-world functionality made it a logical choice for duty in our KBB long-term fleet.
People-pleasing space
Measuring a tidy 160.0 inches bumper to bumper, the 2015 Fit is a foot and a half shorter than a Civic Sedan. And while the slightly wider Civic does an admittedly better job of wedging a third passenger into the middle slot of its 60/40 split bench, when only two are riding in the aft quarters, the advantage is all Fit from a headroom and legroom standpoint. A good deal of that comes from the fact that the latter dimension grew by a huge 4.8 inches in this new iteration. Coupled with an additional 4.9 cu ft of total passenger volume, the biggest Fit ever offers even better accommodations for those riding up front, as well.

Cargo-hauling charm
The redesigned Fit is arguably even more adept when the priority turns to carrying "stuff" of all kinds, as at least two members of the staff can attest. Its center-mounted gas tank and rear "Magic Seat" allow for a variety of quick, easy re-configurations. Drop the seatbacks down to expand capacity of the Fit’s rear bay from an eminently usable 16.6 cu ft to a 52.7 cu ft spec that rivals some small SUVs and makes it an ideal mate for moving duties. Flipping the lower cushion of that Magic Seat up opens an equally impressive central galley that’s nearly four feet tall; and for longer, narrower items, the front seat back on the passenger side also folds forward to create a 7-foot 9-inch clear pathway As a final touch, all aspects of the loading/unloading process are facilitated by the Fit’s large, accommodating rear hatch and doors that swing out nearly 90 degrees.
Having now run up nearly 6,000 largely commuting miles, our Fit continues to deliver reliable, trouble-free service. Fuel economy remains solid, although during this last month it only averaged about 33.4 mpg compared to the 35-mpg combined rating it received from the EPA.
