To say Texas and pickup trucks go hand-in-hand is an understatement of epic proportions. That’s why when Ford announced today that the 2015 F-Series Super Duty lineup includes more power; it only made sense to do so at the State Fair of Texas. The second-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine promises more power and better fuel efficiency but just how much more power, exactly, remains to be seen at the moment. However, Ford does promise that the new Power Stroke engine will produce more power than the current Scorpion Power Stroke mill, which is rated at 400 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque.

"The original designers of the current Power Stroke V8 diesel forecasted needs for higher output. This facilitated the larger turbocharger, increasing airflow and creating more power," said David Ives, Power Stroke technical specialist in a statement released by Ford. "We’ve dramatically improved performance while reducing overall engine complexity by focusing on the turbo system."

Ford managed to boost the latest Power Stroke’s output by including a larger turbocharger this time around. The GT37 turbocharger, which features a single, bigger compressor wheel, replaces the GT32 and its dual-sided compressor design that served with the first-generation Power Stroke diesel engine. The new turbine grows to 72.5 millimeters, up from 64 millimeters over the previous model, to give exhaust gases more surface area to spin the turbo which, in turn, provides more power. A bigger turbo also helps with better engine exhaust braking, too.

As for upgrades to the 2015 Ford F-450, some highlights include upgraded rear driveline U-joints, new rear leaf springs, and stabilizer bars and shocks. Other notable features include increased fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailer capacity, bigger brakes, and stronger steering gears and steering linkages. The 2015 Ford F-Series Super Duty King Ranch edition includes the Running W seen on the seats which was inspired by the brand used at the actual 825,000 acre King Ranch that this model was named after. A lighter Mesa colored leather covers the seats, center console lid, armrests and steering wheel. Exterior updates to the 2015 F-Series King Ranch include Caribou paint on the wheel lip moldings, bumpers, and lower body while the bed rail caps, bumper caps and running boards are all black.
