2015 Chrysler 200 earns top safety rating

The 2015 Chrysler 200 has become the latest vehicle to earn Top Safety Pick+ honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Chrysler‘s new midsize sedan scored the best-possible Good marks across the entire spectrum of the organization’s individual crashworthiness tests and also netted a Superior rating in crash avoidance and mitigation for its optional front-crash prevention technology.

IIHS President Adrian Lund praised the Chrysler 200 for its ability to withstand the rigors of the organization’s demanding small-offset frontal impact test. "The driver’s space was maintained well, and injury measures recorded on the dummy indicated a low risk of any significant injuries in a real-world crash of this severity." Lund went on to note: "Chrysler should also be commended for offering forward collision warning with autonomous braking on this mainstream midsize car. Our research shows that these systems are effective in preventing some kinds of crashes from happening altogether."

The Chrysler 200 is the first 2015 model in the Midsize Moderately Priced Cars category to be awarded an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ ranking. Seven 2014 vehicles also have earned TSP+ status in this critically important segment, headed by the Chevrolet Malibu and Honda Accord Sedan which received Good crashworthiness marks but Basic rankings for their optional front-crash prevention systems. Others 2014 midsize models meriting a TSP+ rating include the Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord Coupe and Hyundai Sonata, although each only earned an "Acceptable" mark in its small-overlap front crash test.
