A one-of-a-kind BMW i8 will be driven off by the highest bidder during next month’s Gooding & Co. auction at Pebble Beach. All proceeds from the sale of the 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition will go to the non-profit Pebble Beach Company Foundation that helps underprivileged young people in Monterey County.

Created to commemorate the car’s U.S. launch this fall, the 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition features unique cosmetic and functional upgrades that set it apart from all other versions of this sleek plug-in hybrid. It also will come with the first "professional edition" BMW Charging Station, a 240-volt Level II unit that includes an information screen to present graphic data on the charge state and usage stats of the i8’s lithium-ion battery pack.

Visually, the i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition is finished in BMW Individual Frozen Grey Metallic and has Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery set off with BMW i Blue contrast stitching. The car’s Pure Impulse Tera World interior trim also includes other accents in BMW i Blue — including the seat belts — and has "BMW i8" embossed into the front headrests and "Concours d’Elegance Edition" i8 laser etched onto the door sill plates. Cool tech touches for this sleek plug-in hybrid will include the first BMW i8 Display Key with an LCD screen and the first U.S. appearance of the automaker’s super-efficient Laser Headlamps. While approval for that next-gen illumination is still subject to DOT approval, BMW advises they’ll be retrofitted on the vehicle post-delivery, if necessary.
