Allowing buyers to make even more of an already very good thing, the 2013 Porsche Carrera S lineup will be available with a new Powerkit option that boosts output of its 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-6 engine by 30 horses without impacting fuel economy – at least not on the European driving cycle. In addition to this available extra muscle, the automaker will offer a selection of aero-enhancing body components through its Porsche Exclusive operation.
Available here starting this fall, the new Powerkit uses a variety of mechanical and electronic enhancements to pop the Carrera S engine’s pony count from 400 to 430. Key elements include redesigned cylinder heads, re-profiled camshafts and a remapped management computer that work with a new variable resonance intake system and a freer-flowing exhaust system. Porsche dynamic engine mounts, a supplemental center radiator and the Sport Chrono Package round out the roster of Powerkit elements, all set off by a titanium-colored engine cover with carbon inlays. Porsche says the upgrade will permit a 911 Carrera S Coupe to streak from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds with its PDK automatic transmission in Sport Plus mode while raising its terminal velocity from 188 to 199 mph.
For 911 Carrera S owners looking to add more visual distinction to their cars that also brings functional benefits, Porsche Exclusive will offer a variety of wind-cheating exterior components including an extended front apron that features open air intakes from the Sport Design Package and a fixed rear ducktail spoiler. For harder-core enthusiasts, the primo Aerokit Cup combo features a bolder front splitter apron with supplemental air ducts as well as a full-on fixed rear spoiler. The Porsche Exclusive catalog also will include a body-color Exterior Package along with numerous other custom exterior and interior trim pieces.
Porsche will release EPA numbers and pricing for the new 2013 911 Carrera S Powerkit along with the other accessory items closer to their on-sale date.
