Although the all-new 2014 Nissan Rogue is due in showrooms later this year, the automaker has announced that it will continue selling a version of the present first-generation model as the 2014 Nissan Rogue Select which will serve as the most affordable member of the family. This decision reflects the fortuitous reality that the current Rogue remains extremely popular – it’s Nissan‘s second-best selling model here in America – and marketing types within the organization see an opportunity to further broaden the buyer base.

"As the compact SUV segment is becoming very specialized, there is an opening for a low-cost, high-content offering, which is a gap that Rogue Select will fill," said Fred Diaz, divisional vice president, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America, Inc. "Rogue Select will allow Nissan to continue its strong performance in the segment, which will only get stronger once the all-new, U.S.-built 2014 Rogue goes on sale."

Details about the 2014 Rogue Select are fairly limited at this point. However Nissan told KBB.com it will be a "well-equipped" albeit largely mono-spec model — something in line with today’s SV-spec Rogue — that will offer limited options and be available in front or all-wheel drive. On sale in January, the repackaged Rogue Select will carry a starting M.S.R.P. below $20,000 – although we expect the figure will rise north of that benchmark when you add in the expected $860 destination fee. While the all-new Gen II Rogue will be built in Nissan’s assembly facility in Smyrna, Tennessee, the Rogue Select will continue to roll out of the plant in Kyushu, Japan.
