Filling out the automaker’s premium drop-top range, the 2013 Maserati GranTurismo Convertible MC makes its debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show. Known outside of America as the GranCabrio MC and Inspired by Maserati‘s successful GranTurismo MC Stradale Coupe, this primo cabriolet adds even more performance-oriented character to the existing GranTurismo Convertible Sport on which it’s based. It also benefits from the same wide-ranging interior enhancements that are being introduced throughout Maserati’s entire Sport range of vehicles for 2013, including the 4-door Quattroporte Sport GT S model.
The GranTurismo Convertible MC is slightly longer than its Convertible Sport counterpart, a mini-stretch primarily due to the fitment of the MC Stradale Coupe’s aero-enhancing/lift-decreasing front fascia. Updated for 2013, that recast nose now boasts restyled headlamps and LED running lights. Maserati’s newest road warrior also features a large, highly functional rear decklid spoiler that can be ordered in matching body color or a natural carbon fiber finish.
Like the MC Stradale Coupe, the 2013 GranTurismo Convertible MC gets its motivation from a Ferrari-designed 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 that makes 453-horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. But in place of the Coupe’s automated manual gearbox, the new Convertible MC is fitted with same 6-speed ZF-designed automatic transmission also used in the Convertible Sport. That combo reportedly will send this new Maserati sprinting to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 180 mph when its power-activated cloth top is in the up and closed position.
In marked contrast to the 2-seat MC Stradale Coupe, the new Convertible MC offers room for four in the same 2+2 configuration as its Convertible Sport sibling. The comprehensive 2013 recasting adds new EcoChrome Grey trim elements while the redesigned seats, covered in premium Poltrona Frau leather, provide even better comfort and support. Standard GranTurismo Convertible MC performance kit also includes a new sport steering wheel with a reprofiled rim/grip areas plus shifter paddles and a sport pedal set made from lightweight aluminum. Like other Maserati models, buyers will be able to custom tailor their vehicles with a number of options and personalization touches.
The 2013 Maserati GranTurismo Convertible MC is set to arrive in America sometime during the first quarter of next year. While pricing has not yet been revealed, expect to see it start in the $145,000-$150,000 range.
