Backing its impressive roster of standards with an equally attractive pricing schedule, the all-new 2013 Dodge Dart is set to open at $16,790 when it goes on sale in June. That sticker will be on the window of the entry-level Dart SE model, but this compact, front-drive sedan based on Alfa Romeo platform architecture also will be available in SXT, Rallye and Limited trims as well as a top-line R/T variant that arrives in the third quarter.
Priced below key competitors like the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla, even the base Dart SE comes with a potent 160-horsepower/2.0-liter "Tigershark" engine, six-speed manual transmission, power windows, projector beam headlamps, LED taillamps, a comprehensive suite of safety systems including stability/traction control, anti-lock disc brakes and 10 airbags. With a bounty of soft-touch surfaces and adult-friendly front and rear seats, it also boasts the largest and arguably the best-styled interior in its class.
The Dart SXT, which starts at $18,790, adds features like air conditioning, power locks/mirrors, keyless entry, 60/40 split-folding rear seat and 17-inch aluminum wheels while gaining options that include Chrysler‘s 8.4-inch touchscreen display, Garmin navigation, a 506-watt sound system and a rear backup camera computer. It also can be fitted with the Fiat-sourced 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir engine that makes 160 horsepower but 184 lb-ft of torque – 26 percent more twist than the base 2.0-liter engine – and an optional six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission in place of the conventional six-speed AutoStick autoshifter offered with the Dart’s other engines.
Opting for the $19,790 Dart Rallye brings its own set of distinctive exterior/interior cosmetic enhancements, cruise control, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel and trip computer. At $20,790, the Dart Limited adds luxury to the mix in the form of things like a 7.0-inch reconfigurable TFT instrument cluster, 8.4-inch touchscreen with UConnect, power driver’s seat, and enhanced trim while offering options that include Nappa leather upholstery, Garmin navigation and a rear cross-path detection system.
Topping the range is the performance-oriented 2013 Dodge Dart R/T. Its $23,290 opening price brings all of the Dart Limited kit but adds a new 184-horsepower/2.4-liter naturally aspirated Tigershark four that’s also fitted with efficiency-enhancing MultiAir technology. Complementing its extra muscle, the Dart R/T also gets a full sport suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, standard R/T-specific Nappa leather, dual-zone climate control and a variety of other cosmetic/functional tweaks including its signature full-width "racetack" LED taillight that also will be available on other Dart models.
