The legendary AMG brand will officially celebrate 45 years of putting its unique high-performance stamp on various Mercedes-Benz vehicles this June. To suitably commemorate the occasion, it plans to roll out a very-limited edition model: the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary. In keeping with the precedent set in 2007 when it created 40 copies of the CL65 AMG 40th Anniversary model, this latest exercise will be limited to just 45 vehicles.
A host of distinctive cosmetic and functional elements set the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary variant apart from mere mortal SL65 AMG models, starting with its unique matte-finish designo magno graphic paint that’s set off with a number of chrome accent elements. This striking SL variant also features an exclusive Exterior Carbon-Fiber package that includes the cross strut in the front apron, front spoiler lip and exterior mirrors made from satin-finish composite. Staggered-size lightweight AMG Performance Studio forged-alloy wheels painted titanium gray with a bright accent rim flange mount super-grippy 255/35 R 19 tires up front and 285/30 R 20 rubber in the rear.
No changes underhood though, as this ultra-rare Mercedes offering is fitted with the same awesome 621-horsepower twin-turbocharged AMG V12 and 7-speed AMG Speedshift Plus automatic transmission used in the "standard" SL65 AMG. It, too, tops out at an electronically limited 186 mph.
Inside, the 2012 SL 65 AMG 45th Anniversary features color-coordinated designo Exclusive STYLE leather in titanium grey pearl/ginger beige with an AMG-specific V12 diamond sew pattern on the seats and door panels, an AMG Performance steering wheel, various matte carbon-fiber trim bits, a "45th Anniversary – 1 Of 45" logo on the ashtray cover and a selection of AMG emblems.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG 45th Anniversary model will go on sale this fall. The first of these units are set to arrive here in November, although the exact quantity and pricing information will not be available until closer to the on-sale date.
