Created specifically for used by police and fire departments as well as other government-owned fleets, the new 2012 Dodge Durango Special Service model has been added to the lineup. Designed and outfitted to accommodate even more intensive usage cycles, the first of these new Durango variants will head into service starting in the second quarter of this year to join forces with the existing Dodge Charger Pursuit and Ram 1500 Special Service vehicles.
Offered in rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations fitted with either a 3.6-liter/290-horsepower Pentastar V6 or optional 360-horse/5.7-liter Hemi V8, the new Durango Special Service model features a heavy-duty brake package, heavy-duty battery, higher-output 220-amp alternator, heavy-duty water pump and an engine-oil cooler. While losing the civilian Durango’s third-row seating, these Special Service variants retain all of the other standard convenience/safety/security features and can tow up to 7,400 pounds when fitted with the Hemi V8.
