Pros

From its Art and Science design language to its uniquely American interior, the 2017 Cadillac CT6 makes a stunning statement. The high-tech interior should hold wide appeal with younger buyers, while its advanced turbocharged engines and taut suspension may be enough to win over hardcore enthusiasts.

Cons

Cadillac’s 2017 CT6 luxury sedan isn’t offered in long-wheelbase form, making it smaller than many rivals. There’s also no V8 or diesel option, and the Cadillac name still doesn’t hold sway with many foreign-car owners.

What's New?

The 2017 Cadillac CT6 luxury sedan introduces its latest version, a plug-in hybrid, that promises 30 miles of EV-only range while still offering a good-sized trunk, and the most torque of any CT6 model.

With the creation of Cadillac’s flagship 2017 CT6 sedan, the legendary American luxury brand returns to the world of full-size premium-luxury cars, ready to challenge such heavyweights as the BMW 7 Series, Lexus LS and Audi A8. The CT6 borrows styling language laid down by the CTS and ATS sedans and places it on a wider and lower platform. Cadillac engineers poured everything they had into the car’s engine and chassis, while the interior team has outdone themselves in terms of styling, materials and features. With a total of four trim levels, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive (RWD, AWD) and four powertrain choices including a new plug-in hybrid, Cadillac’s 2017 CT6 luxury sedan is looking to take on as many challengers as possible and win.

2017 Cadillac CT6 Pricing

2017 Cadillac CT6 pricing starts at $18,018 for the CT6 2.0 Turbo Sedan 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $54,790 when new. The range-topping 2017 CT6 3.0 Twin Turbo Platinum Sedan 4D starts at $22,775 today, originally priced from $88,790.

Driving the Cadillac CT6

It really doesn’t matter which engine you choose; when it comes to dynamic cornering and seat-of-the-pants handling, Cadillac’s 2017 CT6 luxury-performance sedan knows what it’s doing. Despite its larger dimensions, the CT6 tips the scales a mere 17 pounds heavier than the midsize CTS, and is nearly 1,000 pounds lighter than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7 Series. This weight-saving advantage, combined with a super rigid structure and an advanced suspension setup, allows the CT6 to move with an agility that you’ll need to experience to believe. Some editors even felt it out-Germans the Germans. Even the base, rear-drive CT6 with the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is an absolute joy to drive. Toss in AWD, the 404-horsepower turbo V6 and the Active Chassis Package with 4-wheel steering, and you’ll get a car equally at home on the Nurburgring as it is the 405 freeway.

Interior Comfort

Roomy, quiet and well-appointed even in base form, the spacious cabin of Cadillac’s 2017 CT6 sedan reflects a tasteful blend of fine leather, real wood and distinctive carbon-fiber accents that put a contemporary spin on traditional luxury. An 8.0-inch configurable instrument cluster is replaced by a 12-inch unit in the Premium Luxury and Platinum models, but all CT6s feature a more responsive version of the CUE infotainment system that includes a 10.2-inch screen and a console-mounted touch pad. Comfortable, supportive front buckets are matched with an equally accommodating 40/20/40 rear bench seat that offers an impressive 40.4 inches of legroom.

Exterior Styling

Emphasizing the classic proportions of a powerful rear-drive sedan, the 2017 CT6 features a long dash-to-axle ratio and embodies the latest Art and Science visual language reflected in crisply tailored (and primarily aluminum) body panels as well as its bold, expressive face. An evolutionary recasting of the prominent Cadillac grille wears a unique finish on the Platinum variant, but all CT6s get LED headlights framed by vertical LED light blades and LED rear lights with similar vertical orientation. Beyond model-specific 18-inch, 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels, trim grades are largely differentiated by detail touches like front cornering lights and illuminated door handles.

Favorite Features

BOSE PANARAY AUDIO SYSTEM
The Bose Panaray stereo system is unique to the 2017 Cadillac CT6 and features 34 small speakers strategically placed throughout the cabin. The system employs a Bose processor that utilizes the best technology from the company’s home-entertainment products, resulting in crisp highs, deep bass and seemingly limitless volume.

ACTIVE CHASSIS PACKAGE
Offered on the V6-powered trims and standard on the Platinum, Cadillac’s Active Chassis Package merges the on-demand AWD system with GM’s multi-mode Magnetic Ride Control and 4-wheel steering. The combination promotes superior agility at low speeds and better stability at high speeds.

Standard Features

Even the “entry-level” CT6 2.0 Turbo boasts a bounty of features starting with leather upholstery, wood trim, extended-comfort 14-way-power front seats, the latest and best version of Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system, Bose Audio, active noise cancellation and OnStar with 4G LTE. Luxury/Premium Luxury adds detail enhancements like upgraded leather, Surround Sound, a wide-angle rear-camera mirror, concierge lighting and a hands-free power trunk. Platinum-spec includes the awesome Bose Panaray setup, Night Vision, digital instrumentation with head-up display, quad-zone air, Active Chassis with 4-wheel steering, an industry-first surround-view video-recording system, articulated rear seats and dual-screen entertainment plus advanced active/passive driver assists.

Factory Options

Extras on the base CT6 are largely confined to the 3.0-liter V6 engine, AWD, active/passive safety touches, embedded navigation and a panoramic sunroof found in the Driver Awareness and Convenience Package that’s standard on all other models. Luxury/Premium Luxury CT6 options include the Bose Panaray audio system, Enhanced Vision and Comfort Package (rear-camera mirror, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats/heated rear seats), Rear Seat Package (fully articulated/massaging outboard seats, dual 10.3-inch hideaway video screens) and the Active Chassis Package, while Premium Luxury also offers Driver Assistance with Night Vision (adaptive cruise, front/rear auto-braking, infrared night vision). All are standard on the CT6 Platinum.

Engine & Transmission

The 2017 CT6 from Cadillac offers three different gas-only powerplants, all with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a new hybrid. The base 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is rear-drive only and puts out 265-horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6-liter V6 puts out 335 horsepower but slightly less torque than the turbo-four; you trade acceleration for fuel economy in this scenario. Topping the line is a twin-turbo V6 with 404 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. New this year is a hybrid powertrain that uses the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder plus a pair of 100-horsepower electric motors for a peak power output of 335 and 432 lb-ft of torque. Premium fuel is preferred by the turbo-4 and required by the force-fed six.

2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4
265 horsepower @ 5,500 rpm

EPA city/highway fuel economy: 22/30 mpg

2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 + AC Dual motor/generator
335 horsepower (combined)
432 lb-ft of torque (combined)
Estimated full-charge range: 30 miles (all-electric), 400 miles (total)
EPA city/highway fuel economy: N/A

Note: Due to changes in EPA testing to more effectively reflect real-world conditions, some 2017 models show slightly lower fuel-economy scores than their 2016 versions.
