Predicted Resale Value after 5 Years of Ownership: 43.4%
The Subaru Outback is all-new for 2020 and more advanced than ever. It packs fresh tech, upgraded engine offerings and a robust safety suite. Yet just as with the prior model, this new-gen Outback is the best in its class for retaining its value.
On the outside, the 2020 Outback looks similar to the prior gen, but inside – starting deep inside – it is a vastly different vehicle. The Outback is based on a new platform that is even stronger than before. The base 4-cylinder engine has been upgraded and now makes 182 horsepower, adequate for most tasks. New for this generation is a turbocharged 4-cylinder that replaces the former 6-cylinder. Though smaller, it is more powerful than that previous engine, making an ample 260 horsepower.
Of course, as a Subaru Outback, it is made with the outdoors in mind. All models have Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive standard, and when combined with its 8.7 inches of ground clearance and X-Mode off-road specific drive mode, the Outback can tread where some SUVs won’t dare.
Inside the Outback is where you’ll really note the differences in this new version. It is far more tech forward, offering dual 7-inch screens as standard or a vertically oriented, tablet-like 11.6-inch screen as an option. Practical features like a hands-free power tailgate are available, and all models come with Subaru’s EyeSight safety system with lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control. Now in the offering is the DriverFocus system that uses an infrared camera and facial recognition technology to monitor for distraction and fatigue.
Whatever Outback model you choose and whichever adventures it takes you on, you can be confident in its ability to retain its value well over the years.
