Best Subcompact SUV Resale Value: 2020 Subaru Crosstrek

2020 Subaru Crosstrek - Best Resale Value

Predicted Resale Value After 5 Years of Ownership: 50.4%

The Subaru Crosstrek is proof that you needn’t spend big bucks or even have a big vehicle to go on a grand adventure. Essentially a raised and more ruggedized version of the Impreza hatchback, the Subaru Crosstrek offers an excellent blend of capability, efficiency, safety and amenities. And it has far and away the best resale value in its class.

The second-gen Crosstrek debuted just a couple of years ago, making it still feel fresh. For 2020, the Crosstrek is even more tempting with the inclusion of the EyeSight system standard on automatic transmission models. The suite includes key safety features like forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.

In addition to holding its value better than every other competitor, Subaru’s Crosstrek continues to offer features simply not found in others. All models come with all-wheel drive standard and impressive ground clearance of 8.7 inches, which combine to give it the ability to venture off the beaten path and remain poised on slick roads in inclement weather. The Subaru Crosstrek is also among the few vehicles in its class – and few vehicles, period – to offer a manual transmission.

Whether you go with the 6-speed manual or more popular CVT automatic transmission, all models use a 2.0-liter flat (“Boxer”) engine that makes 152 horsepower. Power has never been the Crosstrek’s strong suit, but it’s adequate for everyday commuting. Moreover, it’s efficient, earning up to 33 mpg. Factor in the Crosstrek’s base price of $22,145, and it adds up to an adventurous crossover SUV that is affordable in both the short- and long-run.
