Best Electric Vehicle Resale Value: 2020 Tesla Model X

Predicted Resale Value After 5 Years of Ownership: 44.0%

The up-to-7-passenger Tesla Model X has been evolving since the 2016 model year, when the world first laid hands on it. An all-electric SUV with three rows, gullwing side doors and trunkspace in the front and rear, the Model X landed in the lap of an America going Tesla crazy. Boasting 5-star safety, all-wheel drive, impressive cargo space, and a 5,000-pound towing capacity, the Model X still carries as much attitude and exclusivity as ever. Now, in a stunning upset for 2020, the Model X overtook its snarky young cousin the Tesla Model 3, to take home our electric-car Best Resale Value crown.

As if it’s not quite wild enough that Tesla would bring a pure-electric sport utility vehicle to market, it equips it with massive, parking-lot-dubious gullwing doors. Bold is not an overstatement for this SUV. Inside the Model X, high-quality materials welcome you, and a massive 17-inch touch screen controls the Model X’s interior needs like a giant iPhone.

Tesla doesn’t offer up any power figures for its products, the Model X included. What it does offer up, however, are the $85,000 Long Range model with a 328-mile range on a full charge and a 4.4-second 0-60-mph time, and the $105,000 Performance model offering 305 miles of range and an outrageous 2.7-second 0-60 sprint. Some credits and incentives may still be available. The innovative Autopilot self-steering/accelerating/braking system comes standard, but tech options abound, including Full Self-Driving Capability which ups the Model X’s self-driving game to incredible.

With the inherent cultural desirability for Tesla vehicles — all Tesla vehicles — showing no signs of waning, it appears that the long-term resale-value strength of the Model X SUV will remain a given for quite some time.
