Looking more like a production ready vehicle than an advanced concept, the Citroën SpaceTourer 4X4 Ë Concept is making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show. This small, versatile van is equipped with all-wheel drive and a raised ride height to make it a go-anywhere people and cargo hauler.
Developed features taken from Citroën’s Ë lifestyle production collection, the SpaceTourer is converted to all-wheel drive, a lifted chassis and SUV-inspired skid plates on the front and rear, while sides feature additional cladding. Special camouflage graphics also add to the vehicle’s off-road aura.
Compact package
The SpaceTourer van is offered in XS, M and XL trims that also relate to the vehicle’s length. For the concept, Citroën chose the short wheelbase XS version, which the company says allows for the most functionality and versatility in this application. In addition to the raised ride height to accommodate the Dangel-sourced 4-wheel drive system, the SpaceTourer 4X4 concept rides on 19-inch wheels, giving it both the appearance and capability of a true off-roader.
Sliding side doors give access to a spacious cabin outfitted in a warm design scheme with seating for up to 5 passengers. The second row is a 1/3-2/3 split-sliding rear seat that can be easily removed for additional cargo carrying capability. The seats themselves feature a two-tone treatment with leather uppers and headrests, while the remainder is upholstered in Alcantara.

Diesel power
Power for the Citroën SpaceTourer 4X4 Ë Concept comes from the company’s BlueHDi 150 S&S diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The powerplant produces 148 horsepower and 227 lb-ft of torque. The Dangel 4-wheel drive system features a rear axle lock system that is controlled via a thumbwheel on the dashboard.
Among the new features and driver assists incorporated in the concept are a 3D navigation system with voice control and a 7-inch center console display, a head-up display for the driver, a top rear vision camera, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, speed limiter, road sign reading, lane departure warning, collision warning with autonomous emergency braking and automatic high beams.
No word has been given by the company on whether it plans to make a production version of the SpaceTourer 4X4 Ë Concept.
