ARK Performance Hyundai Veloster – a preview of things to come

Although a production 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo model is set to join the lineup next year, the automaker will offer an early taste of what lies ahead at the SEMA Show in November. A collaborative effort with noted tuning firm ARK Performance, the ARK Performance Hyundai Veloster is a rally-style concept intended to showcase the potential that lies within the new three-door plus hatch sport coupe.

Finished in matte-grey with bright green supergraphics, the ARK Performance Hyundai Veloster wears a full custom ARK body kit, including unique front/rear fascias, a restyled grille, raised rear wing and new headlamp/taillamp/foglights treatments. The car’s bolder fender flares accommodate meaty Nitto NT05 performance rubber on Yokohama 18-inch Yokohama Advan RZ Gunmetal alloy wheels.

Underhood, the ARK Performance Hyundai Veloster features a force-fed version of the standard 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine that uses a twin-scroll turbocharger and intercooler to bump output from 138 to 207 horsepower –the same output that’s expected for the production Veloster Turbo. In addition to its ARK-designed powertrain enhancements, this hard-core Hyundai also gets a major ARK-spec chassis makeover, including a full coil-over suspension, stouter anti-roll bars, a camber kit and bigger disc brakes with six-piston calipers.

Inside, the ARK Performance Hyundai Veloster matches competitive character with impressive creature comforts. A full roll cage envelops custom JPM Coachworks seats and Alcantara upholstery, while Adam Perry audio system with Image Dynamics amplifiers and speakers supplies sounds to go.
