Renault is bringing back a legendary sports car in an update of the Alpine 110, a sport Berlinette that made its mark in the early 1970s. The handsome coupe has a modern flowing shape that also recalls the sharp character lines of the original along with the faired-in driving lights that gave Alpine its iconic look.

The newest Alpine 110 will be powered by a turbocharged 250-horse 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine mounted amidships and driving the rear wheels. Renault envisions the sports coupe as a competitor to the Porsche 718 Cayman coupe and Audi TT. The car is said to be capable of accelerating to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds.

The all-new platform underpinning the car is made of aluminum as are the body panels for weight saving. Renault expects to build about 3,000 cars per year once full production is achieved at the car’s assembly plant in Dieppe, France. Sales will be limited initially to Europe, there are no current plans to sell the Alpine in the U.S.
