About BMW Alpina B7

There is no sweeter reward in life than vindication, which is why BMW's styling guru Chris Bangle must now be sporting a smile wider than the Mississippi river. Known as the father of the current 7 Series, Bangle's critics delivered him a horrible thumping after the car's unveiling, yet the same bulbous curves and distinctive bustle trunk that so offended five years ago has begun showing up on a number of new designs, most noticeably such stalwart vehicles as the Toyota Camry and Lexus LS 460. Vindication indeed! For its part, the 2008 BMW 7 Series continues to serve as the company's flagship and offers unparalleled levels of luxury, interior space and overall performance. Available with a choice of regular or long wheelbase, a V8 or V12 engine and, for the lucky few, the 500-horsepower Alpina B7 trim, the 7's appeal grows stronger as its once controversial design becomes the new norm.

"My 2003 745Li was purchased new and handles as you would expect from a manufacturer known for producing high performance vehicles. It accelerates readily (after the turbo lag) and can compete with any vehicle for exceptional handling. Although heavy, its manueverability is impressive and it stops on a dime. You will feel the road bumps more than in a Mercedes or Lexus, but you will also note a significant difference in performance and WOW in this car by comparison. THANK GOD that the original warranty was 4 years and that we smartly bought the additional 2 yr extended warranty (something I never do). The car has had multiple issues during the warranty period to include small interior trim pieces falling off, multiple electrical issues, seat malfunctions such as cooling fan or massaging seat support not working (ultimately requiring replacing the drivers seat during the extended warranty period), the front wheel splash guards ripping several times (an admitted design flaw),new cd player, various warning lights initiating without true issues, etc. One time the fasten seat belt warning "ding" spontaneously rang for 45 mins while driving about 3 mos after purchase. We were advised to pullover, turn off the car, "let it sleep" 20 mins then restart it which did fix this mysterious issue. WARNING NOTE: the brakes are recommended for replacement almost immediately after the initial warranty expires ($1800), thus making the extended warranty purchase worthwhile and a cost "wash". Now the extended warranty is over and we've just replaced the airbag/seat restraint sensor-the BRAINS of the passenger safety system- ($1800) and a sunshade malfunction ($300). Thus, the maintenance is expensive but expected for cars like BMW, Mercedes, etc. Still, its one fun car to drive and hard to imagine a better car for a road trip, esp. for my 6"4" frame! When I work long hours, it is a joy to RELAX in my car as I drive the 25 mins home! While I'm sure that the car is overpriced, especially with the precipitous drop in its current trade-in value (about $19G now compared with its original $80G cost 7 yrs ago), its still mostly cutting edge technology even now!"

"I've owned my 745i for one year now, and have nothing but good things to say about it. Everyone that gets in it loves it, it's comfortable, stylish, extremely fast, and handles like no other 4 dr sedan I've owned."

"The 750i sport is one of the best cars ever made by BMW, for those looking for great cornering ability the 750 is the king. Bmw need to focus more on the quality of the materials and the software they use in the car. It could brake down a little more than a lot of people would tolerate. BMW's navigation system is worthless and not very user friendly. If anyone is looking to get one make sure you lease it."
