Regeneration, also known as regenerative braking, reclaims energy in a hybrid or electric vehicle. When an electrified vehicle accelerates, it converts electricity into motion. Regeneration allows the vehicle to turn that motion back into storable electricity when the driver slows the vehicle. Typically, regeneration happens by reversing the vehicle’s drive motor to become a generator. The generator effect creates drag that helps slow the vehicle while creating an electrical current directed to the vehicle’s battery.
