Junction-Turning Assist (JTA), also known as “intersection-turning assist,” is a system that detects oncoming traffic in an adjacent lane when making a left turn at an intersection. In most JTA systems, it sounds a warning and automatically brakes your vehicle if it senses an imminent collision. Users can usually select or turn off the assistant’s level of autonomy.
This system extends beyond the forward collision avoidance assist’s reach and aids in several ways. The drivers of approaching cars may not see you, and vice versa. JTA also detects the speed of both you and the oncoming car, which is helpful when you can see the car approaching from the opposite direction but can’t gauge its speed. The ranges of speeds detected are set by the manufacturer.
