What Is a J-Plug?

Person charging EV at home

A J-plug is the standard alternating current (AC) electric vehicle charging plug used in the United States. This plug may provide Level 1 charging at 120 volts or Level 2 charging at 240 volts, but all charging is AC. Contrast with CCS — Combined Charging System and CHAdeMO — CHArge de MOve, which also includes direct current (DC) charging.
