What Is a HUD?

Head-up Display (HUD) on a vehicle

A HUD or Head-Up Display is a device that projects vehicle information such as current speed, navigation instructions, and forward collision warnings onto the windscreen. The images appear in the driver’s natural field of vision, so they need not look away from the road to see the information. Developed for fighter pilots, the HUD first appeared as an option in premium automobiles and has spread to many mainstream cars and trucks as standard equipment.
