What Is an Amp?

AMP

“Amp” is short for “ampere,” the standard measurement unit of electrical current, or how much electricity flows through a conductor. Automotive fuses and circuit breakers are rated in amps because too much current flow can damage wiring and electrical components. The fuse or breaker cuts off the current if the flow exceeds the amp rating. See also Amperage, Volt, Voltage, Watt, and Wattage.

Electric vehicles‘ on-board chargers and home-charging setups should have compatible amp loads. Misaligned amperages can result in EVs not charging as quickly as expected or blown household circuits.
