Positive Review
I researched and compared: 1) 2018 Audi Q5 Prestige (test drove); 2) 2018 BMW X3 xDrive30i, M Sport design, Executive Tier (test drove); 3) 2018 Volvo XC60 T5 Inscription (test drove); 4) 2018 Mercedes GLC300 Fully loaded. Subjectively, I think no car come close to the high tech, simplistic and elegant interior design of XC60. Quality is top notch: soft-touch material everywhere, comfy/supportive seats with soft leather, heat/ventilation and even massage! (Probably the biggest) panoramic moonroof that extend to slightly behind rear passenger. As an audiophile, the B&W option is a must. None of the other three candidates is in even comparable. I love the exterior design, but this is subjective. Also, I think its established that Volvo is synonymous to safety so I wont waste time talking about this. My wife and I love how the ride is tuned with comfort in mind. I think enthusiast will prefer X3 and Q5. But for us, this is a family car so comfort is THE priority. If a sporty drive is what you are looking for, I do recommend X3 or Macan. After basically went through all youtube reviews and website articles, and personally test drove these SUVs, I narrowed down to a fully loaded Q5 Prestige (~56,400 before fees and tax) and fully loaded XC60 T5 Inscription (59,355 before fees and tax). I dare say you wont make any mistake if you choose either one. As much as I want the bragging right of owning a luxury German car, the modern interior/exterior styling, luxury design/material and safety features of XC60 is just the more rational choice for me and my family. Absolutely no regret =)
Critical Review
I am very disappointed in this car. It is depreciating faster than I can pay it down, dropping in value by $1500 per month. The T8 AWD system is split, electric in back, gas in front, so any need for AWD capabilities in slippery or uneven conditions has not been successful. In town on dry straight roads the car is nice to drive, but the autonomous driving breaks down if there is more than a slight curve, the electric motor will only get you about 15 miles in town, and the gas mileage once gone is only 26mpg. This car was ALMOST great, but in reality missed nearly every one of my requirements. I got sucked in by the beautiful interior and technology, and hoped this was "the next Tesla". the reality is I wish I could sell this thing, but the residual value is depreciating so fast that I can't get rid of this thing

Comfortable and stylish
Completely unreliable, especially for the price
I purchased a 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge in January 2023 for over $70,000, expecting the premium quality and reliability Volvo promises. Instead, this vehicle has been a relentless source of frustration, riddled with persistent issues that have made ownership a nightmare. Within just two weeks, the check engine light flared up, forcing an early shop visit. The problem resurfaced in July 2023, leaving the car sidelined for a week. Over the next 18 months, the infotainment system became a constant headache—audio outages, malfunctioning parking sensors and cameras, and lost data connectivity forced me to waste hours on online troubleshooting to avoid repeated dealer trips. The situation escalated in February 2025 when a critical engine failure triggered "turtle mode," crippling the vehicle to a 45 mph crawl. This required a grueling three-week repair. Barely six weeks later, in May 2025, the charging cable became stuck, rendering the car completely inoperable. This fiasco demanded a tow, caused a 30-minute delay to work, and led to another two weeks in the shop. In under 2.5 years, this $70,000 vehicle has been out of service for a staggering six weeks. Despite escalating these issues to Volvo corporate, I received nothing but dismissive responses and zero meaningful resolution. Volvo’s utter failure to stand behind their product reveals a brand that prioritizes profits over customers. The XC60 Recharge is not just unreliable—it’s a betrayal of trust, delivering endless breakdowns and stress instead of the luxury it promises. Choosing Volvo means risking your money, time, and peace of mind on a company that abandons you when things go wrong. Save yourself the regret: do NOT buy from Volvo
Looks nice
Unreliable, nonstop software and electric glitches
Purchased this car last month and just dropped it off for its third service appointment. I’ve had nonstop issues with this car since the day I bought it. First the passenger seat sensor wouldn’t stop beeping despite nothing being in the seat. Took it in for service. Two weeks later the buttons beneath the infotainment system stopped working as well as the buttons on the right side of the steering wheel. Took it to be serviced again. Picked it up and the next day the screen above the steering wheel began glitching - map would not load and screen was white. In addition the car started intermittently not recognizing the keys, and I cannot log into the Google assist or Google maps features. Car is back in the shop. Hadn’t worked for 15 of the 36 days I’ve owned it. Absolute nightmare.
We looked hard for the best possible forever car have had The VolvoXC 60 love how it drives great for any event and person
Exterior Styling
Has a mind of its own! Unreliable!
Finally got my Volvo, after wanting one for years and years. I previously owned Toyota Highlanders and wanted to "spoil" myself once the kids left home. Big Mistake! This car is not reliable and does many funky and scary things...braking when it thinks I may have an accident is one example. Backing out of my driveway, the car has hard stopped twice, and I literally thought I ran over a dog or small child! My check engine light is always on, but I've been told it's fine...how will I know when it isn't fine? I have had to have AAA come for a jump start for a dead battery and neither me nor the mechanic could find anything left on. I simply don't trust this car....it surely feels like it has a mind of its own!
Alan Byer Volvo in Marcy, NY was a dream to work with. Thank you Dave!
This is my 6th Volvo, and for all the luxury standard features, this vehicle is by far the best value for the dollar.
Volvo has done a fantastic job with styling, safety, comfort and luxury on the XC60. I have had no additional maintenance or trips to the dealership other than annual maintenance in the last 5 years. I am glad I bought this car and am extremely happy with it.
overall a very solid and safe car with features that make it competitive with audi and other similar brands. very quick from 0-60 and great for passing and mountain driving
I’ve had this car for two years now and not a single problem. I took it on a road trip from Denver to Florida and it was super comfortable. With the boost of electricity I don’t find myself using a ton of gas either.
