I bought this car 2 yrs ago with a salvage title from a yard when I had to turn in my 2008 Wrangler in to pay my child support after a bitter $150K divorce. Prior, to that it had one owner and had been sitting in the guys yard for years - it had 89K miles and it started right up. I have literally put minimal $$ into it and it has never stranded me. I am devoted to this Passat because it has gotten me through the worst patch in my life. At times it was the only reliable thing in my life.

I bought it with 134000 hoping to have it till 200K. I liked smooth ride, comfortable , well made interior. Fuel economy was 22-25mpg. I had many problems like stuck door, noisy muffler and constant lost battery charge due to poor connector in dashboard. After AC condenser started to leak at 155K I got rid off it. I thought VW was reliable but I was mistaken. Would not recommend, do not buy.

This is a car I bought as a commuter, for 800 dollars, a bargain, especially in its condition. Maybe not the best decision.

most heavenly ride I've ever known in a car. perhaps to pay for that (?) had a number of suspension issues at the ten yr mark - axle, struts, alignment, odd noise - but other than the usual-for-Volkswagen smaller annoying stuff (sticking doors, gas cap hinge, windshield wiper alignment, stiff seat adjustment, rear window defrost failure), the Passat was a great car and very reliable for me. but gas mileage (22-25) not nearly good enough for my now-extended commute.

A good vehicle until something happens to it. Any little bumps or Dings and little things start breaking all over the place. Also hard to find parts for it. Good vehicle overall though.
Love this car! I owned one for twenty years....always reliable!
