Positive Review
ive owned a few 2nd generation gti's. this one has the lowest milage and therefore it's the best performer. good to great on gas mileage. the close ratio trans with the spunky 16v engine make's it the pocket rocket it is known for. the qulity of the build is questionable. they are either built in germany/usa/mexico. i would recommend to avoid the mexican built unless its too clean and very, very well taken care of. transmissions are a ticking time bomb so beware of any clicking noise in every gear including reverse. rust is also an issue so the cleaner the car the better. also look out for cars owned by wanna be hot rodders and racers. if you take good care of it it will last a long time. comfortable for 3-4 people and really good trunk space. heat is great as is the a/c. the recaro interior is the most comfortable for all occupants which was available as an option (on all vw cars i believe) use only 93 octane/change the oil every 3000 miles and tune it up every year or at least change the spark plugs and cap and rotor every year. spark plug wires are expensive but do last a long time before needing to be changed. hope you find a good one and enjoy!
Critical Review
the car is a 1990 gti volkswagen it has a muffler problem and is missing enmergencie switch and sterio and interor door pannels and and head liner. there is no rear bumper and the passenger seat isnt working properly. the car doesnt start right away. tags are due already. i dont feel like this car is even worth my time. i think it might be worth $500

Sexy looking and Fun to Drive!
Don't make them like this anymore!
I have owner this car from brand new. I put all 400,000 miles on her with all original parts. (Yes, clutch included) I am in the process of rebuilding another engine for her. She's a little tired. I just put $2,000 into redoing the body, minor rust, and repainted it the original Montana Green. You don't see these on the road anymore and that's a crying shame. Handles like a dream and still gets 35 mpg even after 20 years. This car owes me nothing. Best $11,000 I ever spent!
its a gti vw and it runs
too many things that need to be repaired

Fun to drive, Efficient, Roomy, Stylish
no cup holders, older - so needs love,
This is by far the best car i have ever driven. It's cheap, handles well, consumes little fuel, has tons of space, and puts a smile on my face every time i drive it.

These cars are money pits!!! However, with the abundance of inexpensive parts, the pit is pretty shallow, but it's still a pit. My GTI 8v has issues every other week...if you get one, and hate maintenance, plan on overhauling or restoring the entire powertrain. Otherwise, you'll be constantly "band-aid"ing something. Besides that "minor" problem...these cars are AWESOME!!!
this car is just awesome. i havent had any problems and i can smoke hondas and acuras all day long....
