"I love my SAAB! (5.3 V8)"

I am the second owner of this vehicle. I was very hesitant to even test drive an SUV that was a "fancy" Trailblazer. Boy am I glad I did! I owned a 2003 Jaguar S-type R (400 HP supercharged V8) at the time and was looking for something all-weather. Although the 97-X looked similar to the Trailblazer, it is sooo much more! Other than the size and general shape, it has nothing in common with the Trailblazer or Envoy. It is more refined and sports oriented. Steering is tight and firm. The turning radius is small and can make a turn from curb to curb on any street. Acceleration is quick but full power is not truly appreciated till you try to pass some one. A firm press on the accelerator and you are firmly planted in your seat! But not too much, it still remains refined. The air suspension provides a gentle but firm ride. Cornering can be done at speeds that an SUV should not be able to handle. But it does! Never losing grip, the All Wheel drive system and Stability management lets you bend all the rules of an SUV. Controls are easy to reach and well designed. The front seats will rival your favorite easy chair. Firm where they need to be and soft where they don't. They are wide and well upholstered with a heating system that could bake your buns! Long trips are a breeze, with ample room inside and a comfortable ride. This vehicle should cost way more then it does. Oil changes, tire rotations and love and care are all that are need to keep it on the road for many many years. Living in Michigan demands a 4 season vehicle. The 97-X allows me to enjoy all of them with comfort and style. And on those summer days, find some twisty roads an let it roar!!!

Critical Review

Great looking SUV, but the reliability is something this vehicle lacks. The air conditioning unit, rear end and rear seat brackets had to be replaced within (1) year of owning it. I purchased this SUV brand new and its been nothing but headaches.

Nice, but with typical GM issues
Pros

Unique SUV brand and stylish

Cons

Imitation Saab- by GM. We’re not all stupid.

I generally like my 97x. However, the rear view mirror is right at eye height and creates a major blind spot. Also, when the battery died the entire ignition locked up so I couldn’t even put in neutral. This meant having to get it towed. I couldn’t even get the key out. I also had a shifter part go out and couldn’t engage the transmission (labor cost was expensive). This meant getting it towed and has happened twice. I’ve never experienced this with any other vehicle I’ve owned in 40 years. Also, the print on the radio knobs wears off. How stupid/bad is that. Lastly, the rear air shocks went out and were expensive to fix. That was such a bad idea to begin with. I’ve owned the car for 6 years and 30k miles.

A great alternative SUV that is unique!
Pros

Nice style, smooth ride, reliable, great value!

Cons

It's mostly a modified, more luxurious Trailblazer

Love this vehicle! First off, the 9-7x stands out because it was not made in large numbers and most people are unaware of the Chevy Trailblazer connections. I usually just hear, "I didn't know Saab built an SUV". Regardless of the GM relationship, Saab enginers made over 200 changes to turn the Trailblazer chassis into a 9-7x. I bought mine with 100k miles around 4 years ago, needed nothing, just got in and drove it with no issues! I was lucky in that the prior owner had apprently changed out the air springs to convential coil springs, so that saves me the trouble of having to worry about the pump going out due to a leak. I have driven it about 10k miles, in that time, replaced the brakes and thermostat. I had always liked the 9-7x, so I was happy to get a nice one at a great price and I have not been disappointed! My 9-7x has the 4.2 engine, so it is not going to blow you away with performance, but that's not what I bought the vehicle for in the first place. The 9-7x rides beautiful and in fact, I just got some new Pirelli Scorpion tires, which have made the ride even more smoother!

Second worst vehicle I’ve owned
Pros

Handles like a sports car

Cons

Poorly designed with low quality parts

Fun to drive but even in 2018 GM has failed to solve the AFM destroying the engine for a few more mpg. Catastrophic failure of engine three times. Decided to have a remanufactured engine installed No more GM vehicles ever.

I love this car
Pros

Great price, fun to drive, looks really nice.

Cons

Price is so low, people automatically think its no

I have owned this car about 3 months, bought with 86000 miles on it. Bought it to pull a 23 foot light camper. It does great. Mileage is acceptable with all it does and still looks nice when not towing. No complaints other than I really don't know why they are so undervalued, considering the car you get. Have had a lot of people question me about it, surprised to learn its a Saab and what it cost me.

Comfortable Luxury SUV
Pros

Comfort, Interior

Cons

MPG, Maintenance, Ugly Rear End

I bought this car nearly 2 years and 20k miles ago. Design: Front: Looks great. Back: Trailblazer... bla. Interior: Very nice design all around (except for that terrible flip-out cup holder). Comfort: The seats are absolutely fantastic (all 5). I love the adjustable pedals, power multi-directional seats, and heated seats. Dual climate zones with rear controls is great. Driving: Ride is great. It's not as soft as most SUVs, so it handles better. But is still floats over the bumps. Road noise is average. Handles well in the snow, though noticeably not as awesome as my old Grand Cherokee. Maintenance: This car is higher maintenance. Oil changes require larger amounts of oil which equals more money. The rear air suspension is heaven when it works... but it fails regularly. I gave up and switched it to standard coils. Thermostat went bad and needed replaced. Throttle body was dirty and needed to be cleaned. Right rear speaker has a short and crackles unless you hit the center console (which fixes it for a short period of time). DVD player in roof eats discs. Driver door sticks when opened. MPG is TERRIBLE! TEEEERRRRRIIIBLE! 14MPG City 19MPG HWY
