The Kia EV9 hit the burgeoning electric vehicle market for the 2024 model year. The EV segment is in growth mode, particularly the 3-row midsize SUV segment where the EV9 resides. Kia’s pushed hard to become an EV leader, and the EV9 is a critical part of that effort. The EV9 is for buyers seeking a 3-row electric SUV with good looks, strong performance, a spacious cabin, and a slew of technology. It also brings a good value equation, as the EV9 is one of the few mainstream all-electric midsize 3-row SUVs. The Tesla Model X, Rivian R1S, and upcoming Volvo EX90 are its primary challengers, and those reside in the more expensive luxury space.
Now in its second year, the 2025 EV9 doesn’t get too many changes from its debut. The Light Long Range rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model gets a standard sunroof, while the 8-way power adjustable second-row captain’s chairs are no longer available in the Land all-wheel-drive (AWD) model. Kia’s focused on providing a highly contented vehicle at a not-so-outrageous price tag. Again, the 3-row EV market is dominated by luxury brands, so the EV9 is already a standout and our Best Buy Award winner among 3-row EVs.
Although Kia is trying to keep the EV9 attainable, it’s still possible to make it the most expensive Kia on the dealer’s lot, with the top-end GT-Line cresting $75,000. The upside is that’s where most of its competitors start. With a range running from 230 to 304 miles, the EV9 competes pretty well with its rivals. Furthermore, when moving into the cabin, the materials and technology are on par with the competition.
