Volvo is in the midst of a product transformation, and its lineup of all-electric SUVs is growing. The 2025 EX30 is the newest addition to its portfolio, not to mention Volvo’s smallest and fastest vehicle.
Available in three equipment levels (Core, Plus, Ultra), the new ute is also Volvo’s most affordable vehicle. And while a subcompact electric SUV is new territory for the legendary Swedish automaker, it doesn’t stray too far from the brand’s iconic interior styling.
Let’s take a look at what the Volvo EX30 offers inside.
Passenger Room and Comfort
While known for producing safe vehicles, Volvo has also earned a reputation for comfortable seats. Volvo claims the seats in the EX30 were designed to deliver the same ergonomic comfort as those in its larger vehicles. However, our review said the new model’s seats weren’t “anything special,” but front-row passengers do enjoy a fair bit of room.
Officials also noted the front seats were slimmed down — which may explain the lack of comfort — to add more legroom in the back. That’s a good thing considering that at 32.3 inches, the EX30 has among the least amount of second-row legroom in its class.
Features and Tech
If you think a Volvo is minimalist on the inside, wait until you hop in the EX30. The dashboard is basically just the 12.3-inch center-mounted vertical tablet-style touchscreen. It’s not just the infotainment hub, it’s the everything hub, as it gives you all of the data you’d normally expect in a gauge cluster in front of the steering wheel. No such thing here.
The upside is that it’s highly customizable, so you can put the info you want right where you can see it. Google is the system of choice here, complete with Google built-in, Google Maps, Google Play, etc., so Android users need not worry. Wireless Apple CarPlay is available.
Although minimalist inside, it offers plenty of tech, including Volvo’s Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system. Like many electric vehicles (EVs), it also gets over-the-air updates to ensure it continues to get better.
Materials and Design
While simple and spare, the EX30 is available with four interior themes: Breeze, Mist, Pine, and Indigo. Volvo offers different colors and unique seating materials, although none are leather. The themes also ensure some continuity within the cabin. The front seats are upholstered using the same fabric all around.
The different themes use a variety of recycled and sustainable materials, such as Pixel Knit, a fabric produced using 100% recycled polyester from PET bottles, and Nordico, another recycled material, plus “bio-attributed” pine resin from sustainable forests. Additionally, they use a wool blend, denim, and flax to keep to the commitment to a greener EV.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
Given it’s a small vehicle, one would expect there to be limited cargo space — and you’d be correct. However, it’s more limited than its competitors, offering an underwhelming 11.2 cubic feet of space behind the second row. It maxes out at 31.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
That said, if you’re meeting a friend for a round of golf, there is room behind the second row for your golf bag — just yours — and a pair of golf shoes.
