For much of its life, the Honda CR-V Hybrid has been an ungainly-looking vehicle that happens to be among the best in its class — an ugly duckling, if you will. However, the current generation adopts a more conventional and attractive exterior style.
While not a speedster, it offers plenty of performance, powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. This combination puts out 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque through a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is available.
Fuel economy remains impressive, netting 40 mpg combined in the front-wheel-drive configuration and 37 mpg in all-wheel drive. For California residents, the 2025 model year also brings a hydrogen fuel-cell version of the CR-V, dubbed CR-V e:FCEV.

Passenger Room and Comfort
The CR-V Hybrid can carry five people comfortably. In the front row, the driver and passenger enjoy Honda’s “body stabilizing” front seats. The seats are comfortable and supportive, especially on long trips.
There’s plenty of space in the second row, where the seats recline, fold, and split (60/40). It offers more head and legroom than its fiercest competitor, the Toyota RAV4. It also provides more legroom than the Ford Escape PHEV, Chevrolet Equinox, Kia Sorento Hybrid, and the Hyundai Tucson.
Features and Tech
The CR-V Hybrid cabin features a simple, straightforward layout, which makes it easy to use the wealth of technology throughout the space. On the entry-level Sport trim, a 7-inch touchscreen handles the vehicle’s infotainment system. Upgrade to the Sport-L or Sport Touring variants, and you get a 9-inch touchscreen. Fortunately, you do get a volume knob so it’s not all high-tech components.
The top two trim levels feature the most technology, including a wireless charging pad for smartphones to go with the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the Sport Touring model. The CR-V Hybrid is available with a 12-speaker Bose surround sound system in the Sport Touring as well.
While being immersed in amazing sound is great, being surrounded by top-flight safety technology is satisfying. The CR-V Hybrid comes with a slew of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies such as Honda’s Blind Spot Information System, cross-traffic monitor, and parking sensors. Additionally, the Honda Sensing Suite comes standard across the lineup. It includes the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist System, and more.
Materials and Design
Although the cabin is tidy, it’s not boring. The tech-laden dashboard gets some visual separation with a honeycomb lattice that spans the width of the SUV, giving it a touch of old-school charm.
The leather-trimmed seats feature contrasting orange stitching as do the steering wheel and shift knob, giving the space a sporty feel. For the driver, it’s a 10-way power adjustable seat with two memory positions. The front passenger gets a power seat as well. The materials are first-rate, but the design team also made certain there was enough interior cargo space, including a spacious center console with inner and outer trays.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
The rear cargo area offers plenty of space for daily errands, extracurricular activities, and even runs to the local hardware store. However, it can even be used for longer trips. Fold flat the second row seats, and you get up to 76.5 cubic feet of space. That’s enough room for four suitcases and a few bags. Even with the 60/40-split second-row seatbacks up, there is 39.3 cubic feet of space for use.
