Need a midsize sedan that won’t break the bank but is stylish and an enjoyable ride? The 2026 Nissan Altima might be the ticket. The Altima is back for 2026 with a more streamlined lineup but with additional standard features. The Altima can still be had for under $30,000, and it comes with some decent upgrades, making this a budget-friendly driving option.
The Ride

The 2026 Altima retains a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 188 horsepower, which is adequate for a midsize sedan. It’s practical, if unexciting, and economical with fuel economy figures of 27 mpg city/39 mpg highway, and 32 mpg combined. Nissan Altima’s strength lies in the comfortable and well-appointed interior. We still wish Nissan would bring back the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, but that is not an option in 2026. However, unlike some rivals, the Altima still offers all-wheel drive (AWD).
Nissan drivers can relax in the renowned “Zero Gravity” seats, feeling safe and secure. They truly are comfortable, and we should know, having spent countless miles in them over the years. The back seats are roomy enough for kids, but adults will appreciate the extra space in rivals like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
Upgrading to all-wheel drive (AWD) is an additional $1,400, but we think it is worth it for drivers who live in wet and snowy climates.
Fully Equipped Trim

For 2026, Nissan has reduced buyer options to two trim levels: the base SV and the well-appointed SR. We will focus on the SR trim, as even with the additional cost, drivers will get a lot while keeping the price around $30,000.
As mentioned, Nissan didn’t make major upgrades to the 2026 Altima, but there are some notable additions, including a larger 12.3-inch infotainment display and the inclusion of a wireless device charging pad.
For a sportier look, upgrade to the SR Midnight Edition. This package features a darkened V-motion grille, black roof, darkened window trim, black badges, and 19-inch black wheels. The Midnight Edition features a moonroof and dual-zone automatic climate control. The paddle shifters, sport-tuned suspension, and sport seats all enhance the driving experience.
The Altima offers new two-tone color options for the SR Midnight Edition, including Pearl White TriCoat, Tactical Green Metallic, and Gray Sky Pearl, all paired with a black roof. We think it brings a sporty and upscale look to the humble Altima.
Safety Tech

The 2026 Altima continues Nissan’s dedication to driver safety. Both the SV and SR feature Nissan’s Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, as well as rear traffic alert and rear automatic braking. The SR trim adds an Intelligent Around View Monitor for better parking assistance. Both trims come with ProPILOT Assist, which includes adaptive cruise control with lane keeping assist.
The Nissan Altima faces stiff competition from midsize sedans, many of which are available with hybrid powertrains. However, it retains its calling card for value by packing in a lot of features without the price going sky-high.
