For most families, there is simply no more versatile transportation than the minivan. A midsize or full-size SUV might be the right move if you need to tow. If you don’t, it’s hard to beat the day-to-day usability of three spacious rows with sliding doors. The wheels pushed out to the corners make minivans surprisingly nimble, too, making them easy to park.
There are only four minivans for sale in the U.S. this model year (though many Volkswagen dealers still have 2025 ID. Buzz models left on the lot, too). So, let’s compare two — the 2026 Chrysler Pacifica and the 2026 Kia Carnival.
2026 Chrysler Pacifica

All minivans are versatile, but the 2026 Chrysler Pacifica is especially so. It’s available in front- or all-wheel drive (FWD or AWD), and as a gas-powered model or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that can probably handle your commute and in-town errands without using any gasoline. It’s due for a major update for the 2027 model year, but that means the 2026 is a well-established design with all the kinks long worked out.
Chrysler Pacifica Highlights
Stow ’n Go seating: The second- and third-row seats of the Pacifica fold flat into the floor. There’s no heavy lifting required to turn the passenger space into a cavernous cargo space.
PHEV option: Some competitors offer a hybrid option, but this is the only PHEV minivan on the market. It can travel up to 32 miles on electricity alone, then use gasoline for long road trips without any charging worries.
Available AWD: Chrysler offers the Pacifica in either FWD or AWD. Kia doesn’t build an AWD Carnival. If you live where the weather sometimes affects your travel plans, that might be the deciding factor between these two.

2026 Kia Carnival

The 2026 Kia Carnival boasts SUV-like looks, perhaps the best handling in its class, and a hybrid option. It also claims the lowest starting price of any 2026 minivan and a stylish yet functional interior that makes its low price a surprise.
Kia Carnival Highlights
Hybrid option: The Pacifica’s PHEV powertrain will save you more at the pump, but its starting price is almost $10,000 higher than that of the Carnival Hybrid. Most drivers won’t keep the car long enough for the gas savings to offset that price difference. Kia’s hybrid, with 33 mpg in combined driving, is an affordable way to use less gas.
Affordable pricing: The Kia Carnival has the lowest starting price in its class. It offers similar features and cargo space to the rest of the minivan segment, but at a lower price.
Class-leading warranty: Kia’s 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty beat anything a competitor offers.

Conclusion
In most circumstances, we’d choose the Carnival between these two. But if you live in the snowbelt, the Pacifica’s available AWD should bump it higher on your list.
