After lurking in the luxury vehicle background for the past several years, Acura’s looking to reclaim its share of the spotlight. With the return of the popular Integra and the debut of the all-electric ZDX, people are taking notice of Honda’s luxury brand.
Now it’s taking the next step in securing a new generation of fans with the all-new ADX, its entry-level small SUV.
Unsurprisingly, the ADX borrows much of its styling from its SUV siblings, the MDX and RDX. Fortunately, when it comes to the powertrain, it borrows from the aforementioned Integra. It’s powered by a 1.5-liter, direct-injected, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated to a sport-tuned continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The combination puts out 190 horsepower. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is available in the new entry.
The all-new ADX offers a stylish exterior, but in small SUVs, it’s often what’s on the inside that counts. This newbie gives buyers plenty of technology and high-end appointments to make first-time luxury buyers happy.
Let’s check out what Acura ADX offers inside.
Passenger Room and Comfort
The ADX can carry five people and a fair bit of cargo in the back. The cabin is well-appointed, using plenty of luxury materials to ensure everyone rides in style and comfort. In terms of actual space, it’s on par with competitors like the Lexus UX, Lincoln Corsair, Cadillac XT5, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and BMW X1.
With a standard moonroof, dual-zone climate controls, and rear air conditioning vents, rear seat passengers enjoy a reasonable amount of space and the ability to control how warm or cold they may feel.
Features and Tech
Small luxury SUV buyers generally want plenty of technology in their vehicles, and the ADX certainly lives up to expectations. The dashboard is anchored by a 10.2-inch digital cockpit display and a 9-inch color touch screen.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are standard equipment, as are Wi-Fi hot spot capability and a Qi-compatible 15-watt wireless smartphone charger. A 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system is available, but the standard 8-speaker Acura Premium Sound System is a fine option.
While being immersed in amazing sound is great, being surrounded by top-flight safety technology is satisfying. The ADX comes with AcuraWatch, a suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies making the SUV quicker to stop and avoid crashes and keep occupants safe.
Materials and Design
The ADX comes in three trim levels. The materials improve as you move up the trim ladder. The base model comes with leatherette-trimmed seats, whereas the A-Spec is where the luxury-performance look and feel begin.
The A-Spec cabin comes clad in Ultrasuede seat trim and features a panoramic moonroof, ventilated front seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel covered in perforated leather, ambient LED lighting, stainless sport pedals, red gauge needles, red contrast stitching, and a sporty chrome shift knob.
Cargo Room and Flexibility
ADX offers top-class cargo volume, with up to 24.4 cubic feet behind the 60/40-split rear seats. If you lay them flat, that space more than doubles to 55.1 cubic feet of cargo space. This allows for easy hauling of groceries, athletic equipment, and even several pieces of luggage.
