Positive Review

"Owned from new, is quite reliable."

I use the van to haul my music equipment and can fit my sound system, full set of drums and four people. No other minivan has that kind of space. It rides really well with plenty of power and until this last year didn't require much maintenance. I did put in another engine when the old one had a head gasket leak and overheated. On the road to W. Va., I used the mileage monitor and it showed 33 MPG. on the highway. Around town, I usually average between 17 and 19. I'm going to hate giving it up sometime in the future.

Critical Review

"Van has Issues"

We've owned this van since new in 1997 and it now (Jan '08) has 105,000 miles. There have been a number of electrical and mechanical problems over the years, most fixed while under warranty and some we've just come to live with. Electrical examples include shock compressor relay, shift solenoid, instrument panel, heater motor resistor, window motors and switches and a couple of other parts that cause the Service Engine Soon (SES) light to fequently come on. We can't leave the keys in our vehicle because sometimes it locks (and even arms) itself. We have to use the odometer for fillups because when fuel gets to around 1/4 of a tank the gauge reads full. Most mechanical replacements have been due to wear & tear, but lots of folks I talk to go 100,000+ miles without replacing parts like water pumps and power window assemblies. I'm on this site today because I've just been hit with a $900 estimate to replace more worn or failing parts and am now thinking of parting ways with this vehicle before I spent more than it's worth. Other than that, the van hasn't left us stranded and gets decent mileage.

At the right price, mileage, a great deal
Pros

Does what it's supposed to w minimal prob's

Cons

None, really.

Bought mine, private sale, a year ago for 450. For a 20 yr old, it's been excellent. Read through some of the, granted older, negative reviews and gotta say.... if u buy off used car lot, are non mechanical and dont have it checked by competent mech, well, your judgement is questionable. (Drop 100 to save 3000) Then sink 1000s into repairs? You've confirmed ur questionable judgement. RE gm's usual bs, like switches, dash lights, other unexplainable quirks... if the light is reporting false info, >things are working<, Dont spend 1000 tracking oblivion, place a 1 penny piece of elect tape on the plastic window and drive on. Jeez.

Best vehicle I have owned
Pros

Great milage, always starts, comfortable

Cons

Not being made anymore

I was given this van by my grandmother in law when I had my first child. It is an amazing vehicle, I have only had two problems while driving, the alternator died and the coil spring broke. I was able to fix both for under a hundred dollars. This past summer my children and I went on a trip of over 2,000 miles and it ran like a champ and got almost 26 mpg. I do need to get the door handles replaced, again, but other than that can't complain. My children love it as much as I do, they have their own space and storage. We will be heart broken when it goes to the great bone yard in the sky, not any time soon!!!

It's 18 years Old

Sure it has a lot of little problems with switches and knobs, interior wear and tear. But the motor uses no oil! Nothing leaks!

This has been an excellent vehicle for me.
Pros

Right height for elderly to enter/exit. Reliable.

Cons

nothing that I can think of!

I've had this vehicle for about 12 years. It has been an excellent choice for me, as it is very easy to get into/out of the vehicle. Not only for me, but for anyone riding with me, especially when I take my elderly friends with me. I love the quad seating; the gas mileage has been very good; it does very well in winter weather. Overall, I've been very pleased with the performance and the appearance of this vehicle.

great family vehicle
Pros

fun and sporty to drive and travel

Cons

rusts out under sliding doors

I have owned this 1997 Pontiac Transport Montana for over 8 years(bought it from an elderly family friend)at 59,000 miles. I have traveled cross country with it for many family and sporting events and have really enjoyed owning this vehicle. I recently purchased a 2005 model and am happy with it so far. I hope to continue to purchase another one when I need to upgrade the newer one.
